Great Men?

March 20, 2008 · 4 Comments

“Great Men”

All men seek significance in life. Some through power. Some through other means.

From professional significance seekers like politicians to amateurs – like the local school board president. Their desire is to feel significant. The problem is that there is NO significance except through Christ alone.

“But,” the Great Man says, ”that method of attaining significance does not require my good effort, great knowledge and exemplary leadership skills.”

True. It reqiures no active effort on our part. It requires something more difficult. Passivity. Rest. And complete faith.

Unfortunately, “Great Men” are too busy moving the next mountain to go there…

passivity? really? hmm, i look at it more like the essence of meekness…huge strength but under control…
i agree significance comes from Christ alone and that people are always trying to find their significance typically seen in what they define themselves by…but i don’t think it has to do with passivity.
when i think of being passive, i think of well, my ex, but also a dead fish. it just kinda lays there looking all shiny and still. but when it comes to Christ and my significance, it’s like mountains and water and clouds and sunshine…it’s an adventure to say the least! :]

There’s a fine line here that few figure out… you know the narrow road is narrow for a reason. The whole idea of “huge strength under control” is appealing to me as well, but I fear it is a false concept.

In fact, that is the excuse that these “great men” give for doing it, as Frank Sinatra says, “MY WAY”. I guess I’m a little sick of it right now, thus the post.

Your ex sounds like a “dud” not one who is under control of almighty God.

Your right “passivity” is not a great word because:

    Is pray passive? NO
    Is self-control passive? NO
    Is meekness passive? NO

They only SEEM passive to most of us. And they are not ACTIVE in the way that the “Movers and Shakers” of the world (and world of Christianity) like.

So I stand corrected. Let’s call it being actively involved in the spiritual realm where the real power is. That’s everything but passive.

    Thanks.
